Former gospel crooner turned secular musician Willy Paul, famously known for hits like Njiwa, has officially thrown open the doors to his very own nightclub — called it Pozze Liquor.
On Thursday, May 22, the singer took to his socials to break the news to fans and followers, proudly unveiling his latest business venture.
Nestled at the Safari Business Arcade along USIU Road, Pozze Liquor promises to be the newest hotspot for Nairobi’s party-happy crowd.
This move makes Willy Paul the latest Kenyan artiste to dip his toes into the ever-buzzing club scene. He follows in the footsteps of Sauti Sol’s Bien Baraza, who previously launched The Manhattan KE Bar and Grill at Imaara Mall in August 2022.
Bien’s venture however hit a bump after a fallout with the mall’s management, forcing him to relocate operations to Kilimani.
Before announcing his grand opening, Willy Paul had quietly been laying the groundwork, previously putting out a call for experienced staff to join his team.
Meanwhile, content creator and entertainer Oga Obinna couldn’t resist chiming in with some brotherly advice. In a recent episode of Obinna Updates, the former radio host congratulated Willy Paul but also served up a healthy dose of caution, speaking from his own experiences in the bar business.
“Starting a liquor store is exciting, but running one in Kenya is a different story,” Obinna remarked. “It takes money, grit, and an enormous amount of patience — especially in a system that isn’t always supportive.”
He went on to reveal some of the behind-the-scenes hurdles many bar owners face, starting with the all-too-familiar licensing drama. And even with all the paperwork sorted, Obinna warned, you’re likely to encounter routine visits from law enforcement expecting “informal payments.”
“You might have all your licences in order, but officers will still expect daily bribes — sometimes KSh 200 twice a day,” he added, noting that this is a hidden cost many new bar owners overlook when launching their ventures.
