Controversial Car dealer Khalif Kairo has spoken openly about his struggles in relationships and why he’s choosing to put romance on pause for now.
Appearing on the Let Me Tell You Maina podcast hosted by Classic105 FM’s Maina Kageni, Kairo addressed the rumors surrounding his breakup with former Miss Universe Kenya, Maria Wavinya. He cleared the air, saying the separation had nothing to do with his legal issues.
“The idea that she left me during my lowest point isn’t true,” Kairo said. “We simply broke up, and it had nothing to do with the court case. Maria was there for me. In fact, I was the one who asked her not to attend the court sessions.”
Known for his fast-paced lifestyle and prominence in the car dealership industry, Kairo admitted that his busy schedule was a major factor that made it hard to sustain the relationship.
“Our breakup wasn’t about drama or issues—we just drifted. I’m always up early and working, and relationships demand attention. If you can’t give that, things fall apart. Women value presence and attention, and when that’s missing, problems begin,” he explained.
Kairo also revealed that the breakup stemmed from a deeper personal realization: he may not be in the right place emotionally to be in a relationship.
“At this point in my life, I don’t think I’m cut out for relationships—not until I achieve the goals God has set for me. Maybe once I reach that stage, I’ll be better equipped for love. But for now, it’s very complicated,” Kairo said.
“I’m not good at relationships, and women are complex. I’m a logical person, but emotions and moods can really make things challenging. Last year was actually my first time dating in three years.”
Following his split from Wavinya, Kairo says he’s now fully shifting his focus back to business.
“I’ve made the decision to step away from relationships and focus entirely on my business. Right now, I’m all about selling cars. Dating is not in my plans at all,” he said
