Celebrated radio presenter Maina Kageni has revealed surprising details about his personal and professional life during a candid quick-fire interview with media personality Kalondu Musyimi.
In the interview, the Classic 105 host opened up about his early career, education journey, family ties, and even his favorite football club in a rare interview that gave fans a rare glimpse into the man behind the microphone.
One of the most surprising revelations was about his first job in 1993 at a credit card company called Royal Card, which he said was owned by his uncle—media mogul SK Macharia.
“I used to deal with receipts, and my salary was KSh 42,000. I even had a company car,” he shared.
Maina also disclosed that he followed the British GCSE curriculum in school and had a deep love for history, though he couldn’t stand mathematics.
“8-4-4 was not for me. I was not wired for that kind of cramming,” he said, noting that he was among the top five students in Kenya at the time.
Although his mother sent him to the UK for university, Maina confessed that he never attended classes and instead used up his tuition money. Despite this rebellious chapter, he says his mother remains his best friend.
The celebrated presenter also spoke about his love for music, revealing that he once recorded songs both in Kenya and the UK—a hidden talent many fans may not have known about.
When it comes to football, Maina is a diehard Manchester United supporter. He revealed that the last time he cried was out of joy when his team beat Lyon 5-4.
“Tears of joy came out of nowhere,” he recalled, adding that he dislikes rival clubs Arsenal and Liverpool. He also predicted that Inter Milan would win the UEFA Champions League.
On a more personal note, Maina revealed that his M-Pesa balance currently stands at KSh 47,000 and that he owns three cars, including his dream vehicle—a BMW X6 M Sport.
