Bongo Flava star Ali Kiba says his relationship with his Kenyan ex-wife has never been better following their publicized split, which officially ended in divorce in 2022.
“I’m in another relationship now. As far as my ex-wife and I are concerned, we have finalized our divorce in harmony, and she is happy. We’re both in a very good place right now; there’s no bad blood between us. We are both happy,” says Alikiba.
The celebrated musician and Amina Khaleef tied the knot in April 2018 in an extravagant, invitation-only wedding ceremony in Mombasa, reportedly heavily sponsored by former Mombasa Governor Ali Hassan Joho, now serving as Cabinet Secretary for Mining, Blue Economy, and Maritime Affairs.
The event was held early in the morning at the Masjid Ummul mosque to avoid uninvited guests, with journalists barred from covering it.
A similarly glamorous reception followed days later in Dar es Salaam, which was broadcast live on Tanzania’s Azam TV.
For the first three years, the couple was regarded as East Africa’s golden pair.

However, things began to unravel behind closed doors. Court documents later revealed Amina’s frustrations over family members living in their Dar es Salaam home and what she described as “constant arguments” that left her feeling “caged” in the marriage.
“I was expected to protect his brand while he did whatever he wanted,” Khaleef alleged during divorce proceedings.
By June 2023, Amina publicly accused the singer of dragging his feet on the divorce process, accusing him of stalling and disrespect.
On January 8, 2021, Amina filed for divorce at the Chief Kadhi’s Court in Mombasa, seeking to compel Ali Kiba to pay her KSh200,000 monthly maintenance for their two children.

In her filings, Amina said the marriage was irretrievably broken, citing constant quarrels, frequent disrespect, and allegations of infidelity. She accused the singer and his circle of creating a toxic environment in their matrimonial home.
Before turning to the courts, Amina reportedly tried to resolve their issues privately, but her efforts were in vain.
Interestingly, it was after filing for divorce that Ali Kiba made visible efforts to salvage the marriage, including several trips to Mombasa to plead his case.
When the divorce was officially finalized in 2022, tensions briefly resurfaced.
Amina took to her Instagram stories, accusing Ali Kiba of holding her hostage by refusing to sign the divorce papers — a claim the singer denied, insisting he had no objections to finalizing the separation.
Soon after, Amina posted a symbolic image of a dove flying from a cage, captioning it “officially free”, marking the end of their marriage.
