Kenyan rapper and digital content creator Stevo Simple Boy, real name is Stephen Otieno, has officially thrown his hat into the political ring.
The popular entertainer announced his plans to vie for a Member of County Assembly (MCA) seat in Kibera during the 2027 general elections.
Kibra is divided into five wards — Sarang’ombe, Laini Saba, Makina, Lindi, and Woodley/Kenyatta Golf Course. However, Stevo has yet to confirm which specific ward he intends to contest.
Stevo Simple Boy made the big reveal through his official Instagram account, sharing a post declaring his political ambitions. The announcement has since sparked plenty of conversation online, with many applauding his commitment to making a difference in his community.
Having been born and raised in Kibera, Stevo has frequently used his music to shed light on the struggles faced by residents of the area. His decision to run for office, he explained, comes from a deep-seated desire to directly tackle these challenges and be a voice for his people.
In a recent TikTok video, the rapper expressed his motivation behind the bold step, saying, “It’s time for the youth to take charge and bring the change we want to see. I believe I can be a voice for the people of Kibera.”
He pointed out unemployment and limited access to education support as some of the biggest issues he wants to address.
“There are so many young individuals in Kibra without employment or bursaries. Once I’m elected, we’ll focus on creating job opportunities and ensuring bursaries get to those who need them,” he added.
