Love can find you in the most unexpected places—even at an airport gate!
Mary Biketi, the girlfriend of Cabinet Secretary Wycliffe Oparanya, recently spilled the tea on how their romance took off (quite literally!) during a candid radio interview, and the story is straight out of a rom-com.
Picture this: Mary is at Wilson Airport, minding her business, waiting for a flight to Kisumu. In walks Oparanya—former ODM deputy leader—heading to the same destination. Fate (and airline seating arrangements) took the wheel, landing them side by side on the plane.
“We were on the same flight, and he sat next to me. I didn’t know who he was at the time,” Mary said with a laugh.
“That’s how it all started.”
But hold up—this wasn’t some whirlwind love-at-first-sight story. Mary made it clear: sparks didn’t fly immediately.
“It didn’t happen right away. We just introduced ourselves, and later, after several conversations, it developed into something more.”
Fast forward, and now Mary is not only Oparanya’s sweetheart but also his unofficial chief security officer—specifically when it comes to his inbox!
Turns out, being in a relationship with a high-profile figure means fending off flirty messages from bold admirers. And Mary? She’s got no patience for nonsense.
“I go through his phone and block whoever needs blocking,” she admitted cheekily.
“There are always girls—kuna tudem tudem, jamani!—trying their luck.”
But don’t get it twisted. Mary draws the line respectfully.
Oparanya is in a polygamous marriage, and she says she doesn’t mess with her co-wives.
“Wale wa nje wabaki nje,” she said, meaning “Those from outside should stay outside.”
Apparently, some admirers get so bold they send inappropriate photos in hopes of catching the CS’s attention. Mary? Unbothered, but definitely not idle.
“Some of them try to seduce him, hoping to meet. I sometimes respond just to see their intentions,” she revealed.
“Sure, some are more educated or have better bodies, but he told me he’s happy with the women he already has.”
