The National Environment Management Authority (NEMA) has ordered the immediate closure of Habanos Lounge, a popular upscale nightclub situated along the Northern Bypass near Kiambu Road.
The move comes after numerous complaints from local residents over persistent noise pollution and the club’s failure to comply with previous directives to control the disturbances.
The closure follows a wave of public outcry, including a strong statement made on April 6 by a senior government official, formerly affiliated with the Hustler Nation Intelligence Bureau.
The official highlighted how the club’s booming music was affecting families in the Ridgeways area, with school-going children and parents bearing the brunt of sleepless nights.
Some residents, desperate for relief, resorted to soundproofing their homes.
In his remarks, the official called on Habanos to take a cue from other nearby establishments such as BND, which had already adopted soundproofing solutions to minimize noise disruption in the neighborhood.
Despite repeated warnings, NEMA stated that Habanos Lounge failed to implement the necessary noise reduction measures.
The authority underlined its responsibility to uphold environmental standards and protect the peace and well-being of communities, especially in residential zones.
Habanos, known for drawing late-night crowds and hosting lively parties near high-end residential estates, had long been on the radar for its loud operations and the frequent nighttime activity spilling into nearby streets.
With the Easter festivities just around the corner—typically a peak time for nightlife—it appears the reggae at Habanos has been stopped, at least for now.
