Kenyan socialite Pesh Lema has finally shared details about the events that led to her 10-year imprisonment in Ghana over drug trafficking allegations.
Speaking in an interview with Oga Obinna on Monday, March 24, Pesh narrated how her lavish lifestyle took a dark turn in 2015.
She explained that her troubles began like many socialites’—sponsored trips and luxurious living. Before one of her planned trips, she was introduced to a wealthy acquaintance in Ghana through a friend.
The night before her departure, she stayed at a posh Nairobi hotel, where the friend who linked them suggested she switch suitcases. She was told the larger suitcase would make a better impression on the wealthy person she was set to meet.
“He told me, ‘You see, my friend is rich. Why are you carrying this small suitcase? Take this big one. When you come back, you will fill it up with shopping.’”
Although she claimed to have thoroughly checked the suitcase before packing her belongings, she found nothing suspicious.
Upon arrival in Ghana, she initially cleared security checks without issues. However, as she exited the airport, authorities singled her out for a random luggage search.
In an interrogation room, officers dismantled the suitcase and found a brown envelope containing narcotics.
“I was shocked. They thought I was pretending, but I had never even seen such drugs before.”
Pesh insisted that the drugs were so well hidden that she had no idea they were inside.
“Let me tell you, these people are very smart. I searched that bag properly, and that’s why I could not believe it.”
Believing she would be cleared, she remained calm, even reapplying lipstick, convinced that authorities would eventually find the real culprit.
However, she was charged with drug trafficking and possession of narcotics, leading to her incarceration for a decade in Ghana.
