Mercy Masai, a well-known personality on X and the Kenya Judo Federation (KJF) Communications Director, has responded to allegations that a judo player was dropped from the national team to accommodate her on a recent trip to Europe.
Masai took to social media to dismiss the claims, stating they were baseless and driven by jealousy. She emphasized that her role in the federation was legitimate and earned through an electoral process.
Further defending her position, the Kenya Judo Federation released an official statement expressing appreciation for Masai’s contributions, particularly in enhancing the visibility of the sport.
“As Kenya Judo Federation, we appreciate Mercy Masai for her dedication as a Communications Director. It’s her prowess that has helped bring judo to the forefront,” the federation stated on X.
The controversy arose after the Kenyan Judo team traveled to Georgia for the Grand Slam 2025, with critics alleging that Masai’s inclusion came at the expense of an athlete. However, KJF has firmly stood by her, insisting that her role is crucial for the sport’s growth and promotion.
