Kenyan socialite Black Cinderella, who recently gained attention for championing the rights of Nigerians in Kenya, has tragically passed away.

The family of Maureen Imbayi, also known as ‘Black Cinderella’ and a former member of the cast of Nairobi Diaries, has also confirmed her death putting rest to rumours and skepticism by some of her followers, who questioned the authenticity of her passing.

The doubts as to whether she really died or was clout-chasing arose as some of the fans recalled a previous incident where she allegedly faked her daughter’s death.

However, acording to Black Cinderella’s family, the socialite was discovered unresponsive in her apartment in Roysambu, where she had been living with her six-year-old daughter.

In a statement posted on her social media page, her family confirmed that she passed away on April 22.

The family explained that despite the efforts of doctors to revive her, she could not be saved.

Dear Friends, supporters, and well-wishers, We want to sincerely thank you for having stood firmly with The Black Cinderella during this challenging time and it is with deepest regrets we wish to inform the public of her demise that occurred in the late hours of Monday 22 April 2024,” the statement reads.

Our beloved daughter was rushed unconscious to the hospital and every effort was made to resuscitate her by a medical team but unfortunately was unsuccessful,” the family added.

The family further expressed gratitude for the support received from fans and well-wishers during this difficult time. They also appealed for privacy as they come to terms with Maureen’s sudden passing.

Black Cinderella’s death comes amidst her recent disclosures about her battle with depression, which she shared openly on her social media accounts.

Among things she would talk about is justice for her Nigerian brothers who at the time were facing criticism for alleged deaths associated with rituals. She also advocated for Rita Waeni’s justice following her gruesome murder in Roysambu.
