Christina Shusho, the renowned artist behind the hit song “Shusha Nyavu,” has opened up about her decision to marry at the young age of 19 years.

The Tanzanian singer, who boasts a sizable Kenyan fanbase, revealed that her mother’s concerns about her striking beauty played a significant role in her hasty marriage decision, which took place shortly after completing her high school education.

I got married at 19 years old, quite young. After completing my form four, my mother saw me, this beautiful girl at home. I was exceptionally beautiful, and my mother was afraid that I might be led astray and bring shame upon the family,” she disclosed.

Shusho mulled over her youthful beauty, suggesting that she was even more stunning in her younger years than she is now.

Now, I’m a bit older, don’t tell me I’m beautiful; I was incredibly beautiful. So, when this man approached my mother expressing interest in me, she simply agreed out of fear. I was indeed very beautiful,” she reminisced.

Her revelation comes amid criticism following her announcement in early April 2024 that she and her husband, John, were parting ways due to what she described as distinct callings.

In a candid statement to New Jerusalem Church TV back then, Shusho clarified that the separation was driven solely by their respective life assignments and emphasized that their split was amicable.

Let me speak from the bottom of my heart… I have never been fake, and I don’t lie. The truth is, it’s just an assignment. There is nothing different other than that. The assignment God has given me this season cannot allow me to stay where I was. I had to leave to fulfill the assignment,” she explained.

Shusho further detailed that she approached her husband respectfully, expressing her need to pursue her journey and requesting his understanding and support in “releasing her” to do so.
