Kit Harington has confirmed that plans for a Game of Thrones spinoff featuring Jon Snow have been canceled.

Christopher Catesby Harington (born 26 December 1986), known professionally as Kit Harington, played the role of Jon Snow in the initial TV series, for which he received nominations for a Golden Globe Award and two Primetime Emmy Awards.

The TV series ran from 2011 to 2019 captivating audiences globally but ending with a somewhat bitter-sweet ending, and not the happily ever after ending most people expected.

Unfortunately, HBO/MAX has now decided not to move forward with the spinoff series, which would have starred Harington in the lead role.

Speaking in an interview, the British actor revealed the disappointing news about the potential sequel.

”I hadn’t really talked about it before because it was still being worked on, I didn’t want it to be leaked that it was in the works, and I didn’t want people to start speculating or getting either excited or upset about it, especially if it might not happen,” Harington said.

The planned Jon Snow series reportedly faced challenges due to insufficient source material from Martin following the conclusion of Game of Thrones in 2019.

”We examined all aspects of the project during its development to determine if it was worth pursuing, but at present, it’s not, We couldn’t find the right story that excited all of us enough, so we decided to put it aside for now. Maybe we’ll revisit it in the future, but for now, it’s on hold,” he added.

Despite this setback, the fantasy franchise will continue with prequels such as House Of The Dragon, with Season two set to premiere on June 16.

Filming for A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms: Hedge Knight – is scheduled to begin on June 3 in Belfast, Northern Ireland.

Both series are based on novellas by George RR Martin, the author of Game of Thrones.

Despite the cancellation of the Jon Snow series, fans can still look forward to the expansion of the Game of Thrones universe through other prequels and projects.
