Social media darling Elsa Majimbo has opened up to her fans on the circumstances surrounding the freezing of her accounts and the investigation into fraud allegations in the US.
According to Majimbo, the ordeal began about two weeks ago when she woke up and decided to indulge in a shopping spree as a means of coping with stress.
“A friend of mine was going through a tough time and she went to Milan and shopped her pain away, so I was like, you know what, that’s what I’m gonna do today. Every wrong that has ever happened in my life, I’m going to shop it out,” she shared on TikTok.
Detailing her shopping escapade, Majimbo mentioned visiting various high-end stores such as Versace, Zara, Gucci, and Victoria’s Secret.
However, her spree prompted alerts from her bank, prompting her to confirm the transactions.
Despite confirming her purchases, Majimbo’s card was repeatedly declined during further subsequent attempts to use it.
After contacting her bank multiple times to resolve the issue, she was informed that her account activity required verification to ensure she wasn’t engaged in fraudulent activity.
Majimbo who has openly stated that she is rich expressed disbelief at the notion of fraud.
“Fraudulent activity? I am just rich, are you joking?” she retorted.
Despite attempting to use another card, she faced similar challenges and was informed that she was now under financial review.
“I’m just so rich people literally can’t believe it, and they need to confirm it’s real,” she humourously remarked.
Elsa Majimbo rose to fame during the height of the Covid-19 pandemic when she used to post short videos of herself in different scenarios.
In 2021, she vented online saying she was fed up with online bullying from Kenyans. She added that she would rather settle in South Africa than Nairobi due to the online attacks.
“I have a very complicated relationship with Nairobi. When things started going well for me, there was a lot of backlash on me and just alot of callous things were said to me. And surprisingly it was people from Kenya. They were hell-bent on my failure and it was so insane. The rest of the world was cheering me on, Kenya was praying for my downfall. So when I got the chance, I packed my bags and I left and I never looked back. And I am never going back,” she said.
At the time she was living in Dubai and said that she would rather hop from country to country but wasn’t coming back to Kenya.
She then relocated to the United States at the age of 19, desiring to escape the ‘colourism’ she was experiencing in Kenya. According to Majimbo, she wanted to find a space where her complexion was ‘celebrated rather than criticised’.
She later on announced that she had bought a house in Los Angeles and would never come back to Kenya leading to an uproar from netizens.
Afer facing a backlash from a section of Kenyans, she went online and dared Kenyans to prove their allegations that she hated Kenya.
