Marathon star Eliud Kipchoge has angered Kenyans on social media after failing to attend the late Kelvin Kiptum’s burial.

The rift between Kipchoge and Kiptum began when Kipchoge failed to congratulate Kiptum for breaking his world record at the previous year’s Chicago Marathon, where Kiptum completed the race in 2:00:35, surpassing Kipchoge’s record of 2:01:09.

Kenyans expressed their dissatisfaction with Kipchoge’s response to Kiptum’s achievement, prompting Kipchoge to release a statement in honor of Kiptum after his passing. However, social media users remained critical.

The latest wave of criticism stems from Kipchoge’s reported absence at Kiptum’s burial at the Chepkorio showground. Notable athletes, including Faith Kipyegon, Julius Yego, and Conseslus Kipruto, attended the event.

Social media users questioned Kipchoge’s non-participation, with one user suggesting that if he were in Kipchoge’s position, he would have run a “race to lose” in honor of Kelvin Kiptum. The online community continues to scrutinize Kipchoge’s actions in the aftermath of this controversy.
